Javier’s Story:
Javier Calleja came to Harrisonburg at 18 with nothing. He was living on the streets, under porches and eating from dumpsters. He got a job as a janitor at JMU and at McDonalds. He is now a professor at JMU has multiple homes and happy family. The images below retrace his steps through Harrisonburg.

After becoming a JMU professor, a place only five years ago he was employed as a janitor, Javier buys the home he now lives in.
Javier sits and reflects about his journey from El Salvador to Harrisburg, VA. From being homeless to owning many homes. From starting as a janitor at JMU to being a professor there.
